TOKYO, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Nikkei closed 0.01 percent lower on Friday as hopes for a further rise in stocks following the European Central Bank's additional monetary easing was offset by selling to lock in gains.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 2.13 points from Thursday at 15,077.24.
Meanwhile, the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 1.82 points, or 0.15 percent, at 1,234.57.
Major gainers included marine transport, insurance and machinery issues, while communication, retail and pharmaceutical issues led the decline.
The turnover was 1,897.6 billion yen (18.55 billion U.S. dollars). (Source:Xinhua English)
